I was pretty excited (ok, that’s putting it mildly) when I received an email from Stephanie and Chris about their Candle Lake wedding. Ever since I discovered my love for rural and outdoor weddings, a Candle Lake wedding has been at the top of my list. You see, Candle Lake and I go way back. I spent the first summer of my life there, and vacationed there every year until I graduated. My grandparents retired there, so not only are my childhood memories full of the smell of spruce forest and the warmth of the soft sandy shores, but also of the quiet of a snowy Christmas Day at the lake.
As it happens, Stephanie and I go way back too. I was so excited when I read her email that it didn’t immediately click, but I used to babysit Stephanie. We haven’t crossed paths since, and she didn’t realize who she had emailed. Luckily, my “I know who you are” response didn’t creep her out, haha!
As I drove to the Candle Lake Golf Resort the morning of their wedding, everything was lush and green from the previous night’s storm. The rain held off as Stephanie crossed the lawn towards her groom, but the happy tears fell freely. As the lake breeze carried in the scent of the pines, Stephanie and Chris said “I do”.
We headed to the beautiful Fisher Creek area to shoot formals in the forest and along the shore. After a laughter-filled evening and a surprise visit from Uncle Si, the celebration continued on into the night under the starry boreal sky.
Congrats Stephanie and Chris on an absolutely beautiful day, it was an honor to share it with you!
