Shelby and Evan’s Elk Ridge Resort Wedding at Waskesiu
Shelby and Evan’s favourite thing to do together is go on adventures. Hiking, boating, swimming, dirt biking, snowmobiling – the more spontaneous, the better. As they woke up one Saturday morning, Evan – in true Evan fashion – said “let’s go to Banff.” So off to Banff they went! After supper, they walked along the trail to Bow Falls. Evan wanted to take a photo. Nobody was around to grab a shot of them, so he set Shelby’s phone to video, to grab a screen shot from. As they posed for the video, Evan dropped to one knee and popped the question!
They originally began planning a small backyard wedding on their acreage near Vanscoy. In the meantime, Elk Ridge Resort reopened under new management, so they jumped at the chance to get married there! It was a particularly meaningful place to them as they’d driven there for supper on their first date.
On their sunny August wedding day, Shelby’s mom helped her into her dress, her nieces watching in wonder. Meanwhile, Evan got ready at the family cabin at Emma Lake. Guests gathered, milling around the pond patio. A light haze of smoke hung in the air. It added to the dreamlike feel of the day as Shelby came down the aisle to join Evan for an intimate ceremony by the water.
After family photos by the pond, the wedding party headed into Waskesiu for photos on the beach. In the shade of the pines, Shelby and Evan took some time alone to breathe it all in, between the excitement of the morning and dancing into the night.
Shelby and Evan brought their rescue dog to the wedding, but Sprocket is a bit of an introvert and preferred to hang back in the cabin. So, on the way to the reception, we made sure to stop by and get sweet Sprocket in a few photos too.
Their reception in the Elk Ridge pavilion was full of joy: heartfelt speeches, bells ringing for kisses, a prankster ring bearer, and first dances under the twinkle lights. Evening turned to twilight with Evan’s suit jacket slung over the back of a chair and Shelby’s dress bustled, ready to tear up the dance floor. But first, a quiet moment outside, refreshed by the cool evening breeze, reflecting on a perfect summer’s day.
Congratulations, Shelby and Evan!
