Olivia’s Grad Photos at Blackstrap Lake
Meet Olivia, a 2024 Holy Cross graduate who brought her adventurous spirit to her grad photos at Blackstrap Lake! Olivia is all about fashion, music, and traveling, with big plans to pursue a Kinesiology degree and become a chiropractor. For her session, we headed to Blackstrap Provincial Park, where Olivia embraced her love of the outdoors. From twirling through the trees to climbing up rocks, and even taking her dress for a blue-hour swim, her session was full of adventure. Definitely the perfect way to celebrate this milestone – congratulations Olivia!
Thinking you might want grad photos in the water? Here are a few tips to keep it safe, comfortable, and fun!
Tips for Great Grad Photos in the Water
Consider your outfit. Dresses that are flowy work best in the water. Make sure it will look good wet and won’t get see-through. If you don’t want to wear your actual grad dress in the water, you could always bring a second outfit!
Bring water shoes. It’s easiest to go barefoot, but if stepping on water weeds creeps you out, I hear you. Wear some water-friendly sandals – most of the time your feet won’t show, and you can kick them off easily if needed. Olivia wore Crocs into the water and it worked perfectly.
Bring towels and a change of clothes. Pack a towel or two, dry clothes, and a large bag to transport your wet outfit home in. A blanket is also handy, to warm you up once you’re out of the water, but also to double as a changeroom if there isn’t one nearby. Or, if your drive home is short and you want to change there instead, use it to keep your seat dry on the way.
Coordinate with your photographer. If you want grad photos in the water, let your photographer know in advance so they can plan accordingly as well. That said, most of my water photos this year were actually spontaneous, so you don’t HAVE to plan ahead – if the mood strikes, we can still make it work!
Stay comfortable, stay safe, have fun! Only go in as far as you’re comfortable, whether it’s dipping your toes or fully immersing yourself. Above all, the key is to feel relaxed, stay SAFE, and enjoy the experience!
