Mackenzie’s Adventurous Outlook Graduation Photos

My phone buzzed. It was Mackenzie, wanting to chat about locations for her Outlook graduation photos. She’d found an abandoned farm that she thought would be a great spot, and she wanted to take a swim in the river afterwards. I felt the photography gods smile on me – two of my favourite kinds of locations in one photoshoot?! Add in an adventurous soul like Mackenzie and I knew this was going to be a super fun session. I wasn’t wrong.

We met up at the farm, exploring the old buildings while the golden sun dropped right into that perfect spot behind the abandoned house. Mackenzie was a delight to work with and up for anything – playing in the tall grass, climbing around in the old garage and sitting in a windowsill. We were having so much fun that we almost lost track of time, and made it to the river with just enough light for a beautiful sunset underneath the SkyTrail pedestrian bridge.

If you’re looking for unique grad photos, consider doing your session after graduation. It’s a great opportunity to get images that you’ll love without having to worry about keeping your dress pristine (and although you don’t need to swim in it, I’ll never try to talk you out of the idea!). The more open and adventurous you are, the more epic your photos will be!

Mackenzie is studying social work this fall at the University of Regina, and looks forward to travelling. Congratulations on your graduation Mackenzie – it was a delight to work with you again, and thank you for a fun evening!

PS: Always get permission from the landowner before doing a photoshoot on someone else’s property, even if it appears abandoned!
