It was a couple of weeks until Kayla and Adam’s Waskesiu wedding. I was planning on heading north the day before it, as I always do. I’d rented a little cabin in the woods and was going to have a Friday night all to myself. Part of me said Tracy, put your feet up for once. No computer and no wifi means no work. Sit your butt down in that deck chair, crack a beer and read a book. But the other part of me was like hmm… a beautiful northern lake… an empty beach at sunset… are you really just going to let that go to waste? Yeeaaah nope. I just couldn’t.
It didn’t take me long to connect with Samantha, who agreed to meet me in Waskesiu for some after-grad photos. If you’re adventurous at heart, having your grad photos done after graduation is an opportunity to get photos that you’ll love without having to worry about keeping your dress pristine. Another bonus is that you’ll be able to travel to a location that you might not have had time to otherwise (I’m in Waskesiu a few times this summer 2018, just sayin’…). Samantha was definitely up for anything. We had a blast exploring the area, wandering into the woods and wading out into the waves. I promise I won’t make you lay in the water at your session, but I definitely won’t try and talk you out of it! We hung out on the beach until the sun went down, bathing the sky in a beautiful pink glow.
Samantha absolutely nailed her session. It’s always so rewarding to work with someone who trusts your vision, and even more so when your visions jive. As an added bonus, one of her images placed in the top 10% overall/top 6% for the high school senior photo category in the 2018 Shoot and Share contest!
It was so hard for both of us to narrow down our favourites from the evening, but here’s our attempt!
Back in parking lot, we made friends with this fearless and adorable little fox. She was really interested in the bag Samantha’s dress came in, coming right up to investigate. She was probably hoping it was the kind of bag with snacks inside (I feel your disappointment, girl). I still had a long lens on and she got so close at one point I couldn’t even fit all of her in the frame!
