Susha and Matt’s Saskatchewan Destination Wedding in Waskesiu Lake, Prince Albert National Park

Matt and Susha first crossed paths online. Their first date got off to a slow start when they got stuck in the snow trying to leave. Thankfully Susha’s roommates were spying on them, they came to the rescue, and the rest is history!

Susha grew up in La Ronge, and the two of them love camping, fishing, and spending time outdoors. They really wanted to be surrounded by natural beauty on their wedding day. This made Waskesiu the obvious choice for their Saskatchewan destination wedding.

Matt and the guys got ready at Lost Creek Resort. Jokes flew as they donned their hamburger socks, and tried to figure out the complexities of suspenders. Meanwhile, Susha and her crew hung out at their cozy cabin at Elk Ridge Resort. Her mom helped with her dress, as her bridesmaids and man of honor put the finishing touches on hair and makeup.

Doggie ring bearers Taz and Link lead the way down the aisle in their tiny tuxedos, while Matt’s brother sang the bride in on the arm of her father. Susha and Matt said their vows in front of the beautiful stone fireplace, as Waskesiu Community Hall rang out with laughter during their sweet and joyful ceremony.

On and off drizzle required a few changes to the afternoon’s photography plans, but the easygoing wedding party rolled with it before heading off to cocktail hour. Susha and Matt took a breather for some quieter moments alone together down the Waskesiu River Trail, where the sun made its only appearance of the day.

Back at the hall, it was “Hickey Time”! Matt’s siblings proved to be hilarious emcees, keeping the guests entertained with some especially competitive beer bong, and a kissing list with tasks including doing a human pyramid and posing with a shirtless fireman. A delicious supper remained true to Susha’s northern roots, with a spread including elk, pickerel, wild rice, and bannock made fresh that morning by family members.

The dance floor was hopping before the sun even set over Waskesiu Lake, the end of a perfect day filled with the love and support of family and friends.
