“Hopefully a few inches of fresh snow and hoar frost on the trees” – that was Deena’s vision of her November wedding. Aaron once told me that Deena has a dry sense of humor. I think Mother Nature might too, because she went a little over the top on Deena’s wish and delivered up a full blown blizzard! But a Saskatchewan winter wedding wouldn’t be authentic without some crazy weather, and it definitely made this beautiful wedding day one to remember!
Deena got ready at her father’s house in Middle Lake, surrounded by her sisters, friends, and family. The snow swirled outside, but inside the cozy house were flurries of laughter (and some happy tears!) as the girls helped Deena prepare for the day. The brides I work with are generally a laid-back bunch, but none of them had faced down a snowstorm on their wedding day. Deena, however, was the epitome of calm throughout. In the welcoming warmth of the St. Benedict church, enveloped in twinkle lights, gold sparkles and beautiful hymns lead by the bride’s sisters, Deena and Aaron said their I Do’s.
Then came the crazy fun part – shooting formals outside in a blizzard! We had a Plan B in case of weather, but the snow was so pretty that we decided it was worth the extra effort. The trees at Deena and Aaron’s farm provided some shelter and made for a stunning snow-laden backdrop. I have to give a massive shout out to this wedding party, who were absolute ROCK STARS despite getting covered in snow. When it comes to not letting a little weather get you down, Deena and Aaron have now set the Dream Client bar pretty high!
After a pitstop for shooters at the Pilger Tavern, the party kicked off at the Humboldt Convention Centre. Their DIY green and glittery gold wedding decor was the perfect blend of rustic glamour. I couldn’t resist doing their ring shot on top of a welding project Aaron had given Deena as a teen, complete with “D+A”, a heart, and a romantic Chevy logo 😉
There are plenty of superstitions about rain on your wedding day. Apparently snow is a prophecy of great happiness and prosperity. I’m guessing a snowstorm pretty much seals that deal! Thank you for entrusting me with such a memorable day. I can’t wait to see what your joys your future brings!
