Amy & Jevin’s Saskatoon Backyard Wedding
Amy and Jevin met through mutual friends. It’s surprising they hadn’t met earlier. One of Amy’s friends, who also happened to be Jevin’s roommate, had a small gathering at her place. When Amy asked Jevin where the bathroom was, their eyes locked as he said “upstairs and to your left.” Jevin invited Amy on a dog walk date with him and his buddy Leonard the dog. Amy attended one of Jevin’s yoga classes where she was blown away by his words of wisdom and his ability to do the splits. The rest is history!
From Amy: “Jevin proposed to me on April 24th, 2016. Before this, we both had an understanding that we were life partners, given how much fun we have together and that we bought a house together. At that time, we had no plans of getting married, but knew it would likely happen at some point. We are not traditional or religious and there was no rush for it to happen. Jevin very much surprised me! He asked me to go for brunch on a Sunday that was not ideal for me. I was putting up a stink and couldn’t figure out why he was so adamant about brunch on this particular Sunday. I begrudgingly gave in. He changed five times that morning and settled on a very nice outfit, much dressier than mine. He slowly drove along the river while I impatiently pouted. He pulled over by the river and asked if we could go take a picture. I was so annoyed! Then he got nervous and said he had something to read me. We sat on a bench, he read me a letter, and busted out this amazing ring, which he picked out. Then I cried a lot.”
Jevin loves projects, and gardening is high up on his project list. Amy will garden, move soil and haul woodchips even in her nicest outfits. It’s one of their favourite things to do together. They didn’t want a big or formal wedding, just to bring everyone together in an elegant but laid-back space where guests could relax and enjoy themselves. Their beautiful little garden was the perfect location for their Saskatoon backyard wedding.
Amy and Jevin were married in a sweet, intimate ceremony, surrounded by the garden they grew themselves. They shared tears and laughs, gripping each other’s hands tightly as the summer sun shone down. Their mothers signed their marriage license, and a yard full of their favorite people gathered around to congratulate them, cold drinks in hand.
After a small family supper in the front yard, everyone headed over to Village Guitar and Amp to kick off the party! After the speeches, some of Amy’s talented family took to the stage. Her dad, uncle, cousin and aunts filled the dance floor before turning it over to their friends, Saskatoon band FunkJoint. The celebration spilled over to the karaoke stage at the Underground Cafe next door.
No monogrammed aisle runner or satin chair covers, no ushers or wedding party, no head table or cake cutting, no fuss. Just two people honoring what truly matters, all their very favourite people together, and a party that nobody wanted to leave.
“Tracy was our wedding photographer this past summer. She really went above and beyond. She was reliable, organized, professional and easy going. She is genuine and clearly has a passion for her work. My whole family was so impressed by her. She was very flexible, thoughtful, and easy to work with. She captured amazing memories. Our photos are incredible and the album is beautiful. A keepsake that she put a lot of time and attention to detail into. We are thrilled with our photos and the service she provided. Thank you Tracy!”
