Erika’s Saskatoon Graduation Portraits by the River

Meet Erika, a 2024 Walter Murray graduate! Erika squeezed in some last-minute Saskatoon graduation portraits before heading off to Waterloo in August to study architecture. Fun fact: she’s one of only three students from Saskatoon in this year’s cohort – and I’ve had the honor of photographing two of them!

For her session, Erika wanted a natural location with lots of trees, and I knew just the spot. We started in a lush area full of greenery and warm tones that perfectly complemented her stunning burgundy dress. We also played around with incorporating a fallen tree into the compositions. Since that tree is no longer there, this created some truly unique images!

Afterward, we made our way to our second location by the river. Once at the water’s edge, Erika’s spontaneity and adventurous spirit took her session to the next level. I knew Erika wanted photos by the river, but she never said she was actually planning to get IN the water! As we photographed along the shoreline, she just strolled on in. And if you know me at all, you know that this is the kind of surprise I love!

The sunset was hazy and pink, casting a dreamy glow on the water, perfectly matching her dress. As a dancer, Erika even incorporated a few graceful moves into the session, adding an elegant and dynamic touch to her portraits.

Erika, it was an absolute blast working with you! Your creativity and adventurous spirit made this session so memorable, and I’m glad you were able to fit it in. Best of luck in Waterloo – I know you’ll do amazing things in architecture!
