Saskatoon House Concert at 134 Homemade Jam: Annie Sumi – August 22, 2019
Annie Sumi is an Ontario singer-songwriter, nominated for Emerging Artist of the Year by the Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2018. Her 2019 cross-country tour brought her to town for a Saskatoon house concert at 134 Homemade Jam (now Alt Haus). It was a rainy evening, so we all crowded into the cozy, colorful dining room for her mesmerizing and passionate performance.
“Annie Sumi is an Ontario-based ethereal folk artist with a sound shaped by diverse musical influences, from Joni to Feist to Rachel Sermanni. Her compositions linger on the line between reality and imagination, like a lyrical poet with a knack for capturing the magic of life through the eyes of a child.
Dancing on a line between imagination and reality, ethereal-folk artist Annie Sumi’s music invites you into a familiar otherworld. Like an inbound wind, her voice begins with a whisper, gathers strength and purpose, and transforms into an airy howl. Her songs take you to places – of quiet wonder, of unspoken love, of tranquil landscape.”
