Suzanne and Ryan‘s Wakaw wedding day began at Suzanne’s family farm near St. Isidore de Bellevue. While Suzanne waited for her sisters to arrive from the salon, her mom mended pocket squares at the dining room table. Her dad kept one eye on the tv with her brothers, and the other on the weather outside. It had been a wet fall, but the beautiful yellow leaves still graced the trees. All fingers were crossed for the rain to hold off.
As Suzanne applied her vintage red lipstick and her mother fastened her dress, Ryan arrived outside with his groomsmen. A muddy yard meant their first look took place on the deck, accompanied by a few barn cats. As they laid eyes on each other for the first time, there was no containing their excitement at what the day had in store for them.
Suzanne and Ryan had envisioned an elegant 1920s-era celebration, and their hard work definitely showed. From Suzanne’s vintage hair and makeup, to the flapper-style dresses worn by the bridesmaids, sophisticated Gatsby-esque charm filled their day. Suzanne’s mémère (grandmother) arranged the classic white rose and baby’s breath bouquets, and adorned them with simple pearls to complement Suzanne’s jewellery. The boys wore classic tuxedos, complete with engraved pocketwatches that were gifts from Ryan. And then there was their reception! The Wakaw Rec Centre was decked out in full Great Gatsby style, dripping with gold sparkles, pearls, feathers, dramatic black accents, and a stunning Art Deco-style cake. All the glitz and sparkle added an extra glamorous touch to their celebration, but in the end, nothing beats a good old small town dance party!
