Saskatchewan Elopement Photographers: Jill and Tyler’s Okanagan Lake Wedding
Your wedding can be whatever you want. That’s always been the case. But over these past two years, couples have really embraced this freedom. It’s been wonderful to see them revel in the kind of day they truly want. So, if you want to go on a road trip, rent out a mansion, and have all your friends spend the week, guess what – you can!
If you know Jill and Tyler, you know they love three things: the lake, travel, and good times surrounded with friends. When it became clear that their original wedding plans were no longer feasible (thanks, pandemic), what could they do? They came up with a pivot combining those three loves: traveling to Okanagan Lake with their friends to throw the best party yet!
Jill and Tyler rented a gorgeous Spanish-style mansion overlooking the Okanagan Valley near Fintry, BC. Big enough to host all of their friends for the week (highly recommended!), festivities were obviously going to commence a few days early! But these folks have got stamina – when wedding day rolled around, they were eager to kick it into high gear! A morning storm rolled in as the girls got ready, but nothing could dampen the mood in that room. Mimosas in hand, Jill and her bridesmaids laughed and joked all morning long. Meanwhile, the guys shot pool downstairs and took in the beautiful view with some beers on the deck.
When the rain let up, Jill and Tyler met for a private first look in the pagoda, Jill dodging puddles in her dress. Then it was finally time to get married! Their intimate ceremony on the terrace overlooked the valley, the scent of rain on the breeze blowing off the lake. Their officiant stood off to one side so all eyes were only on them (again, highly recommended!), as they shared the sweetest personal vows.
Following hugs and congratulations, the wedding party moved to historic Fintry Provincial Park, just down the road. The fall colors were in full force as the group enjoyed drinks and plenty of laughs. Jill and Tyler took some time alone together on the beach to bask in those “we finally did it” feelings they’d waited so long for.
After that, the group rejoined back at the house for cocktails, charcuterie, and a champagne toast on the terrace. As the sun set through the pines on the hill, they enjoyed an al fresco family-style supper, with speeches under a starry sky. Then the karaoke machine made its appearance and the party was ON. Shooters were shot, tables were danced on, and they celebrated hard and long into the night.
At one point, I overheard a groomsman telling some bridesmaids about how your friends become your family. With such a great group of people by their sides, I’d say Jill and Tyler figured that out long ago.
Jill and Tyler, it was such an honor to make this trip for you and capture such a joyful, beautiful, and ridiculously fun day. Congratulations <3
