Jayce’s Saskatoon Grad Photography in Diefenbaker Park

Meet Jayce, a 2023 Marion M. Graham Collegiate graduate. Jayce is an aspiring singer/songwriter delving into the world of audio engineering at Recording Arts Institute of Saskatoon. He’s also got his own debut album in the works. I had the pleasure of photographing his sister Lexi’s grad session in 2021. It was so lovely to reunite with this energetic and fun family for Jayce’s Saskatoon grad photography!

Jayce envisioned grad photos with a moody, dramatic vibe, reflecting his artistic spirit. So together, we chose Diefenbaker Park as the location which ticked all the boxes. We started with a bit of greenery and nature, as the golden light began to sink across the river. As we explored, we stopped to take advantage of those great lines of the pedestrian bridge, Jayce providing his own artistic direction and poses along the way.

On our way down to the water, Jayce suddenly went crashing off into the bushes. Of course I followed him in, where we found this graffitied storm water outlet that made for a real hidden gem of a location. I slipped on a rock and almost fell on my butt in a stream, but that bruise would have been 100% worth it.

Later, as the sun dipped below the horizon, we were rewarded with a fiery sunset glowing over the river. Jayce splashed around in the warm water as a passing train on the bridge added that perfect extra touch.

But our adventure didn’t end there! The sun now completely gone, we used Circle Drive as our background to play with ambient lighting from street lamps and the freeway, capturing some unique images that were totally Jayce’s vision. I definitely felt like I was shooting his album cover!
