Saskatchewan Elopement Photographer: Cindy and Rick’s Waskesiu Wedding
On a more or less normal day, two strangers stood in line at Tim Hortons. Little did they know, as they waited for their coffee, that things were about to change in a big way. They got talking and the hours flew by, neither of them wanting to leave. After that they spent as much time together as they could, and texted non-stop when they couldn’t. They discovered a mutual love of the outdoors, camping and boating and spending time at the family cabin. On one particular camping trip, Cindy asked Rick to gather some rocks to hold down the tablecloth in the wind. Later that evening beside the campfire, Rick said that while looking for the rocks, he’d found an extra one. He presented her with a ring.
Cindy began her Waskesiu wedding day in their cabin at Lost Creek Resort. Her mom and daughter joined her for a fun and laid-back morning, and made sure the mimosa glasses stayed full. As a final touch, Cindy’s mom presented her own engagement and wedding rings for Cindy to wear. As the August sun shone bright, she met Rick for a sweet first look in the forest behind the cabin, and it was time to hitch up the boat trailer and head to Crean Lake.
Crean Lake is important to Cindy and Rick’s whole family, with many summer nights spent camping on its remote forested islands. Both Cindy’s dad’s and step-dad’s ashes are spread there, making it such a special place for them to pledge their vows. They planned a very intimate wedding, with a small number of family and close friends. The marina was abuzz as they launched the boat, with Cindy in her wedding dress expertly navigating the waters to a secluded stretch of beach. Guests relaxed on lawn chairs awaiting their arrival, dogs milling around. As loons called in the distance, they passed their rings around the circle of their loved ones, each guest taking a moment to imbue them with good wishes. And with the scent of pine on the breeze and their toes in the sand of they place they love most, Cindy and Rick said I do.
Cindy and Rick wanted a simple wedding day full of laughter with the people they love best. Not ones for tradition, they arranged their reception tables in one big square, ordered pizza for supper, cut a wedding pie, and cranked up the playlist for a night of fun and frivolity. Cindy described herself as the kind of bride that would dive off the boat in her wedding dress. While that sadly didn’t happen, she did drag Rick into the lake fully clothed for a water fight, and they watched the sun set on their first day as a married couple.
Cindy and Rick are the best kind of people. They love to laugh, constantly teasing each other and making silly jokes. They said screw it to the stuffy stuff, planning their day purely around fun times with their favourite people in their favourite place, making it one of the most memorable weddings I’ve had the honor of documenting.
“I love Tracy! She is so excellent to work with. She photographed our wedding and did a wonderful job. I would absolutely recommend her.”
