Mindy and Shantel’s Saskatoon Same Sex Proposal Photos at Poplar Bluffs
Mindy and Shantel met online. But little did they know that their paths had already crossed countless times, facing each other down on the hockey rink! From their first in-person meeting, sparks flew. It only took a couple of months for Mindy to be sure that she’d one day be proposing to Shantel.
Sure enough, Mindy reached out to me with the idea for a couples photoshoot, secretly weaving in a proposal along the way. We hashed out the details over the phone, from the perfect location to the covert signal and even where to discreetly stash the ring so Shantel wouldn’t find it until the big moment.
We were having a blast during our session, giggling about something as we made our way from one spot to the next, the golden sun hanging low on the most perfectly beautiful fall evening. As we headed over to the place where I was going to signal Mindy to pop the question – plot twist! Shantel pulled me aside and told me that SHE was going to propose! And obviously, they both said yes <3
If you’re considering a proposal photoshoot, here are some tips to have those unforgettable moments perfectly captured:
- First, make it a special occasion! Whether you follow in Mindy’s footsteps with a photoshoot as a cover story, or simply plan a romantic date with your photographer casually lurking nearby, setting the scene is key.
- Next, choose the location. To make it extra meaningful, pick a spot that holds significance to your relationship. Consider if you are ok with an audience, or if you’d prefer privacy. Discuss it with your photographer, who may also offer some suggestions from a photography standpoint. Mindy definitely wanted their proposal photos to be by the river, which can be a pretty popular place on a beautiful evening like this one. But I knew we’d also be able to find the perfect secluded spot for the big moment.
- Don’t forget about lighting! If you’re making this much effort to have the moment captured, then don’t forget to factor in the time of day and lighting at the location. This is especially if it’s sunny, like it always seems to be in Saskatchewan! Work with your photographer to ensure the lighting complements the moment perfectly.
- Lastly, have a plan in place! Coordinate with your photographer for a seamless execution, including a prearranged scenario and signal to cue the big moment. And once the question’s popped, savor every precious second by staying in the moment as long as you want!
Congratulations and thank you for trusting me with these moments, Mindy and Shantel <3
